Air Traffic Controllers Strike at Lille
January 16, 2012
French unions have called for an air
traffic controller (ATC) strike at the Lille-Lesquin airport
(LIL) in northern France Jan. 17-18. The airport serves both
as a hub for cargo transport and as a commercial flight
provider; it is the fourth busiest cargo airport in the
country. Airlines have already canceled over 40 flights in
anticipation of the industrial action, beginning late Jan.
16.
The ATC union is demanding additional workforce to cope with
increasing air traffic.
Expect domestic and international flight disruptions.
Contact your airline or travel provider for updated flight
information. Delays will likely linger beyond Jan. 18 as
backlogs clear. A possible alternative on Jan. 17-18 is the
Brussels airport (BRU), located about 95 km (60 miles) east
of LIL.
